The pure product appears as flaky or columnar crystals, with a melting point of 49–51°C, a boiling point of 226°C, a relative density of 1.076, and a flash point of 98°C. It is readily soluble in petroleum ether but only slightly soluble in water.
3,4-Dimethoxyether is an intermediate in the herbicide dimethenamid-P, and it also serves as an intermediate in the production of pharmaceutical vitamin B2.
