Colorless liquid with a fresh lemon-like aroma and a green, herbal scent, subtly accented by hints of ether and oil. Boiling point: 157–161°C. Soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether, slightly soluble in water. Naturally found in apples, strawberries, clove stems, ginger, black tea, soybeans, and other sources.
Added to nitro spray paint solvents as a co-solvent, used as a plasticizer, wetting agent, and as an intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals, fragrances, and analytical chemistry reagents.
