Pure product is a white crystal. It has a fishy odor and is insoluble in anhydrous ethanol, diethyl ether, benzene, and xylene. It exhibits slight solubility in dichloroethane and isopropanol.
Chlormequat is an excellent plant growth regulator that can be used on crops such as wheat, rice, cotton, tobacco, corn, and tomatoes. It inhibits cell elongation in plants without affecting cell division, resulting in shorter plants with thicker stems and greener leaves. This compound enhances crop resilience to both drought and flooding, prevents excessive vegetative growth and lodging, improves salt-alkali tolerance, and even helps reduce premature boll shedding in cotton. Additionally, it promotes the enlargement of potato tubers.
