The pure product is a pale yellow, oil-like liquid. Its boiling point is 156°C at 66.66 Pa, with a relative density of 1.06 to 1.07 (at 25°C). It begins to decompose at 165°C, and its vapor pressure is 0.6 × 10⁻³ Pa (at 25°C). It is soluble in various organic solvents such as acetone, ethanol, methanol, and benzene, but its solubility in water is only 2 mg/L. The compound exhibits excellent light stability, though it starts thermally decomposing at 275°C. Additionally, it becomes unstable at pH values below 4.
It is a highly effective, low-toxicity pre-emergence herbicide primarily used to control most annual grassy weeds and certain broadleaf weeds in dryland crops.
