The pure substance appears as white crystals with a barely perceptible odor. It has a melting point of 83–84°C, a relative density of 1.73 (at 20°C), a vapor pressure of 0.21 mPa (at 20°C), and Henry's law constant of 4.4 × 10⁻⁷ Pa·m³/mol (at 20°C). Its logP value according to the octanol-water partition coefficient is 0.43 (at 20°C).
Dichlorvos is a highly effective, low-toxicity insecticide with strong stomach and contact action, as well as notable fumigant properties. It is particularly effective against pests belonging to the Diptera, Lepidoptera, and Coleoptera orders. Primarily used for controlling chewing-mouthpart pests on vegetables, fruit trees, tea, mulberry, cotton, and grain crops, it is also widely applied to manage sanitary pests.
