The pure product appears as white crystals (the technical grade is a yellow-brown solid). It has a melting point of 49–50°C and a vapor pressure of 0.73 Pa (20°C). Solubility (at 25°C): 0.041 mg/L in water; 1,000 g/L in cyclohexanone and xylene; and 337 g/L in methanol. The compound readily decomposes in alkaline solutions.
Insecticides and acaricides with contact and stomach-killing actions; used to control tea caterpillars, cabbage caterpillars and diamondback moths, as well as cotton bollworms, red spider mites, and pink bollworms, among others.
